More efficient handling of organic fibers
Central automated storage/retrieval system optimizes warehouse processes and makes way for more production spaceJ. Rettenmaier & Söhne is a family-run company specializing in the research, development and refinement of high-grade organic fibers made from plant raw materials. The wide variety of products is used in many different sectors, ranging from the food processing and the pharmaceutical industries all the way through to feedstuff applications. The goods used to be stored manually in different places at the company headquarters in Rosenberg.
In the near future, an automated storage/retrieval system from viastore systems will ensure more efficient and economic processes. The new central system, which will be 32 meters (105 ft.) high and 90 meters (295 ft.) long, will replace a large part of the manual warehouse areas and offer storage capacity for over 13,000 pallets. These will be stored double deep in five aisles. In spite of four different pallet sizes, the storage area can be flexibly used. All the storage locations are designed for load heights of a respectable 2.6 meters (8.5 ft.). They are serviced by five high-performance viapal storage/retrieval machines.
The system is run under the viad@tONE warehouse management system which also ensures the arrival of order-specific pallets in goods issue. Thanks to the new, central AS/RS, Rettenmaier can not only use former storage areas for production purposes. It will also be able to clearly optimize the structure and organization in goods management and dispatch handling. Another positive side effect is that the truck traffic on site will be reduced.
